One of Fender’s prototype at NAMM 2012 this winter was the Fender Voyager. Designed by former Charvel master builder Josh Hurt, the Voyager has their pickups hidden below the pickguard, just like on the original Fender Marauder
Marauders never made it to Fender’s catalog. No more than 8 prototypes would have been made, which makes this model Fender’s rarest. The first four had three pickups mounted below the pickguard. The guitar looks amazing and is even more mythical… Although everyone agrees on their existence, not a single of them has been produced. The last four had three pickups mounted as usual, one slanted like on the strats, and a myriad of switches and knobs.
Fender reissued a Marauder in 2011 that is loosely based on the original model.
