Gibson CS Marc Bolan Les Paul

Marc Bolan’s Les Paul was a FrankenPaul. It was built out of several LPs from different eras. Its whereabouts are unknown, but Gibson believed its last state to be a 50s Les Paul body with a 70s LP Custom neck. That’s on these specs that they built the Custom Shop Marc Bolan signature Les Paul. Of course, its a limited run of 100, on top of which another 350 VOS have been produced.

The aged finish may be called ‘Bolan Chablis’, its not by licking the maple top that you’ll get a proper taste out of this axe.

Gibson Les Paul Deluxe

Pushed out by the SG, the Les Paul Model which hadn’t said its last word came back for another round of production in 1968. Along with Standard and Custom, a new brat joined the family: The Les Paul Deluxe.

The brighter, snappier sound juiced out of its two “New York” mini-humbucker was favored by some well known guitarists, and was famed by Pete Townshed who played a few during his career with The Who.

Victim of the 70s Norlin era, the Deluxe model lived through many variations in construction. Early models even featured the heavy “pancake” body (layers of maple and mahogany)

Along with this Les Paul XPL DC-400, Gibson released other “XPL” guitars during the mid 80s, such as this Flying V XPL. By the way, XPL stands for “Explorer” (It’s all about the headstock)

Neil Young’s Old Back has lived through some many customizations It’s hard to believe this was originally a 1953 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop. A masterpiece.

How can you get bored posting Les Pauls when there are so many great variations. this 2007 Gibson Les Paul was one of the limited run guitar of the week.

Pete Townshed’s Les Paul #5

This is a 1976 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe that Pete used from 76 to 79. Was on display at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland, Ohio up until 2007. Who knows where it is now… Who knows.

1992 Gibson Les Paul that was signed by all the artists who attented the Freddie Mercury tribute concert at the Wembley Stadium that year. According to Brian May, signed “by members of Queen, Guns ‘N’ Roses, Metallica, Def Leppard, Extreme, Spinal Tap, Liza Minelli, Elton John, Cindy Crawford, Roger Daltrey Tomi Iommi and many more…. ”

Gibson Les Paul Personal

One rare Gibson (only 370 made): This 1969 Les Paul personal was one of Gibson’s “experimental” guitars. Controls include a low impedance switch. Other models (Les Paul Professional and Recording) were part of that experimental serie.
